santa barbara
good morning from the lovely pepper tree in in santa barbara, california. yes, i know this is a surprising turn of events. last week i was feeling lonely, grumpy, and not at all creative, and decided to google "intensive drawing workshop." shockingly, one popped up, and it begins this morning. so, i will spend the next five days drawing in the right side of my brain. i love the right side of my brain. when i am living there time really does become meaningless (just like they say in the books). activities that send my consciousness there include quilting, cooking, knitting, crocheting, and a great book...... and, since becoming more adept and comfortable at drawing is on my list of things to do this year, i wasted no time signing up. i arrived here last night after a long day. the morning was spent in two meetings for the la film fest. i am helping my friend there get her advertising campaign together. it is really a rewarding endeavor. it brings me back in contact with my favorite people from my previous life, it is wonderful to spend time with a gentle, creative woman, and it seems like a nice thing to do for my community -- a rare example of time that feels really well spent. then, i dropped the beagle off at her other family's, had a really relaxing bite with a pal, and went over to the film company to view the movie i might be getting involved with. it was another very positive experience. the head of the department was lovely and complimentary, and i would like to find a way to work with her.
the drive here was fairly painless (despite a lot of construction and closed lanes), and my room is not luxurious, but serves the purpose just fine. there is also a huge mall across the street, so i may go wander around one evening. i don't spend much time in malls these days, can't say i really miss them, but maybe there's a good movie playing....five days of possibility, what fun!
ok, i'd post a picture but i have been having trouble with my i-phone synching lately. i suspect i may have too many photos saved on the phone itself.
wish me luck with my drawings!!!!
